Samanbahche Houses

Considered as the first public housing project of Cyprus, this project was constructed between 1918 and 1955 in a garden at the southwest of the Kyrenia Gate and at the west side of Mevlevi Tekke, which belonged to Şaban Paşa. Creating a building complex of about 70-72 houses for families with inadequate financial situation, the housing has been the first example of urban planning, in the center of the building complex, and there is a hexagonal shaped and domed public fountain with reservoir. The building complex was restored between 2003 and 2004.
