The Mayor of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality (NTM) Cemal Bulutoğluları, stated that they exchanged their views about the Master Plan with the Mayor of the Nicosia Greek Municipality, Eleni Mavrou a while ago and added that they commonly decided to build multiple storey buildings at the main arteries of Nicosia. Stating that to construct buildings of 20-30 storeys on the main arteries of the city, with shops at the bottom and houses on the upper floors,  will provide facilities to protect the green areas and to construct parks at the mentioned areas, Bulutoğluları, said that “If we consider our country as a world state and aim to be a member of EU, we have to arrange the Master Plan laws just as Ms. Eleni Mavrou denoted.

According to the master plan laws, it is necessary to make updates periodically. In order to do that, a United Board Meeting must take place. As it is in Europe and South Cyprus, the municipalities must be the authorized institutions about the master plan.

Stating that the United Board Meeting, which hadn’t been implemented for 10 years, has been implemented as a result of the intensive efforts of NTM, the Mayor, Cemal Bulutoğluları indicated that they are aiming to make radical changes in master plan laws. ‘’I hope that the Minister of Internal Affairs will make improvements in the master plan according to the demands of the mayors. Our community wants it. The land prices have increased so much that the citizens cannot afford to buy land. By the constructions of high buildings, both flat and office prices will decrease. It is possible to see this kind of buildings in South Cyprus. Why should not we have these kind of roads?’’ said the Mayor. ‘’We are waiting for the modifications to bedone  on the master plan which is now on the agenda and  being discussed.  In the case of implementing the modifications, we are ready to approve the law,” he added.

The Mayor Cemal Bulutoğluları stated that in the walled city Nicosia, there will be no skyscrapers and that the area will not change. He connoted that the project which is near completion will come to a true picture after the meeting of the Urban Planning Department and the United Board. The skyscrapers will be approximately 20-30 storeys and consequently the apartment building costs will decrease along with the fact that the protection of the green lands will be provided.
