The Mayor of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality Cemal Bulutoğluları, visited the former Mayors Burhan Yetkili and Kutlay Erk on 16th of June,  on the occasion of the 51st Anniversary of the NTM. The Deputy Mayor of the NTM Celal Cin and Municipal Council Member Fatma Sabri also accompanied to the Mayor Bulutoğluları during the visits. In his visits, Bulutoğluları stated that former Mayors of the NTM also have important contributions to the present modern condition of the NTM. Bulutoğluları thanked Burhan Yetkili and Kutlay Erk for their support to the NTM and stated that the people who came on duty as a Mayor of the NTM should derive benefit from the experiences of the former Mayors. Bulutoğluları denoted that he took the duty from Kutlay Erk who has contributed a lot to most of the projects of European Union which are being implemented today. Bulutoğluları also added to his speech that the visits will continue to the other former Mayors.

Yetkili and Erk thanked the Mayor of NTM Cemal Bulutoğluları and the Deputy Mayor of NTM Celal Cin because of their visits. Burhan Yetkili connoted that the people who have been in duty  as  Mayor could not leave from the municipality and also added that   “Municipal business is such that if it enters your life once, you cannot live without it”. Yetkili denoted that he is the person who knows well about the stages of the municipality for 51 years and added that the duties of municipality will never end in accordance with the needs of community.

Kutlay Erk made a statement and indicated that the NTM is a valuable entity. Erk stated that the NTM has problems nowadays as in the past and this will continue in the future but that the important point here is to make Nicosia a modern capital city. Emphasizing that the NTM is one of the elite instutions of Turkish Cypriots which has an international status, Erk said “ the NTM is a foundation that can explain the rightful action of Turks abroad. I tried to do this in my period. I am monitoring you, these works are also continuing in your period.” Connoting that Nicosia is getting larger day by day, thus the Master Plan of the city needs to be reorganized according to the modern conditions, Erk made statements about the Dikmen Garbage Dump as well. Stating that the only competent body in Dikmen is municipalities, Erk connoted that the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Environmental Office have nothing to do with this subject so they should withdraw from the garbage site. Erk also added that only the municipalities have the knowledge and facilities to overcome the problem.
