The women members of SIDIKEK, which is an
associate of the South Cyprus Worker’s
Federation and organized at the municipalities
and public economic enterprises, realized a
visit to the NTM and had a meeting with the
Town Clerk Ali Önöz today (05-03-09) for the
“8th March World Women’s Day”
The Head of the Municipal Workers Labor Union (BES)
Birtan Aktolga and the General Secretary of
SIDEKEK-PEO Adamos Andreou were present at the
visit.
During the visit of the labor members, the NTM
Town Clerk Ali Önöz denoted that women and men
are equal according to the law but enough
opportunity is not given to women to use their
rights. Stating that women should claim their
own rights, Ali Önöz said “Rights cannot be
taken for granted; they can only be acquired”
Sıdal: “Our joint organizations will
continue”
The general secretary of SIDIKEK-PEO Adamos
Andreou stated that SIDIKEK and PEO are
organizing joint events for almost over 20 years
and told that these works will surely continue
in the future periods.
The Head of the Foreign Relations of BES Gülev
Sıdal said that the event which is organized by
PEO and BES because of “8th March World Women’s
Day”, will continue with other activities on
future days. Explaining that within the
framework of the organization they will visit
several women at their offices, Sıdal said that
“Half of the world population consists of women.
But today, even if half of the population
consists of women, we are not sharing the
management equally.
Carnations have been distributed to the women
SIDIKEK member Andry Demetriov denoted that
bi-communal activities provide Turkish Cypriots
and Greek Cypriots with an opportunity to
understand each other.
After the talks, BES and SIDIKEK members
distributed carnations to all the women staff of
the NTM.
